What is Digital Storytelling?

Targets:

Where to Create Digital Stories:

 

Photos with Text

Storybird (example) - select a group of artist drawings and write a story to the pictures.  You can share with a link.  Pros: illustrations are provided, can share story and collaborate with others.

Tikatok (example) - photos, drawings, documents with text. You can share with a link.  Pros: Story starters with pictures are provided,  links to share online, options to purchase in hard cover

MixBook (example) - photos, drawings, documents with text.  You can share with a link.  Pro: Provides great backgrounds and pictures, can share online with a link, just like scrapbooking

 

Photos with Audio

PhotoStory 3 -(example at bottom of page) - You need to download the software to your computer.  Create a story with photos and your own recorded audio.  Saves as a WMV. (tutorial sheets)  Pros: downloaded program so you can avoid internet issues, saves as a WMV, easy step-by-step process

VoiceThreads (example)- Upload pictures and narrate them.   Pros: collaboration, share with a link,

 

Create Moive/Animation (some with Audio, some without)

Animoto (for educators) (example)  - Upload pictures, add text and mucis - create a cool movie.  Pros: extremely simple to use, embed in sites or share with a link, teacher accounts are free

Dvolver -(see example at bottom of page) *Preview first- some of the character choices are risky) Really easy- create an aminated movie, includes music, but no voice recording.  Students can email or embed their videos.  Pros: extremely easy to use, just text and animation (no audio) Caution: Some of the cartoon characters are inappropriately dressed.

Xtranormal (example)- Text to movie.  Pick your scenes, characters, type your text select the camera angles and body jestures and create your movie.  Text will be spoken in movie.  Pros: text to speech, students type and the computer generates the speech, easy to use, high quality results, embed or share with a link

Capzules -(example) Combine your videos, photos, blogs, and mp3s into rich multimedia stories.  Pros: creates a flow to your presentation, great for teacher lessons, step-by-step process

My StoryMaker -lets you control characters and objects - and creates sentences for you! Once you are done with your story, you can print it out. You can print it out again by entering your magic number in the box on the right. Unfortunately you cannot go back in and edit a story once you have ended it.

Myths and Legends Story Creator -(example) Once you have read and listened to some of our stories, you might like to try your hand at creating your own version of one of the stories or even creating a brand new story. On this site we have a 'Story Creator' which will help you to use pictures to create a graphic version of a story. The 'Story Creator' comes with lots of backgrounds, characters and props and you can even add your own pictures.
